Water - 1 Quart
White Granulated Sugar - 2 tablespoons
White Vinegar - 2 tablespoons
Household Chlorine Bleach or Spirits (Vodka or Gin) - ½ teaspoon
Stir until the sugar dissolves, and let the water cool before adding the flowers. Dump the old solution and replace it with fresh solution every two (2) days. Before adding the flowers back into the vase, at an angle, recut the end of the stem ½ to 1 inch.
Some kind of Carbohydrate (ie. sugar) will provide food to the flowers. Adding an acid (ie, white vinegar) to the water can keep the pH level low to reduce wilting and help the flowers absorb water better. And to stop bacteria from multiplying in the water the most common antibacterial products used for fresh flowers are bleach and spirits, such as vodka or gin. Recut the stems half inch to one inch at an angle with every change of the water.
A major factor to wilted pre-maturely wilted stems is the stem not being able to take up water. This can happen for many reasons. The best solution is to recut the bottom of the stem AT AN ANGLE so there's more surface area for it to take up water and so the bottom of the stem isn't resting flat on the bottom of the vase. Change and condition the water!
